To Download and install:
- Make sure you have one or more of the following products on Mac OS X:
| Media Composer | v 1.0 or greater |
| Media Composer Meridien | v 11.8 or greater |
| Symphony Nitris | any version |
| Symphony | v 4.8 or greater |
| Xpress | v 5.8 or greater |
| Xpress Pro | any version |
| Xpress DV | v 4.0 or greater |
| Newscutter | v 6.1 or greater |
For older Avid versions or Mac OS 9 please use
version 1.31 or 1.21 instead.
- Quit your Avid software if it is running.
If you have an older version of Sapphire 2 you do not
need to un-install it. The new installation will just replace it
without removing any existing serial number.
-
Check which Mac OS version you are running, and download the appropriate installer.
For Mac OS 10.4.7 or later: Download
Sapphire 2.05 Universal Binary (13Mb)
For Mac OS 10.2.6 to 10.4.6: Download
Sapphire 2.05 PPC (13Mb)
Follow the instructions given by the installer.
When it asks for your username and password, just enter your
Mac user login password.
If you require Sapphire version 1 for compatibility with old sequences:
Download
Sapphire 1.35 (5 Mb) for Mac OS X.
Sapphire 2 includes both AVX1 and AVX2
versions of the plug-ins, and the installer should default the
appropriate selection depending on which AVX versions
your Avid product supports. If you plan to conform your work to an
Avid product such as DS that does not support AVX2, be
sure to check the AVX1 version.
When you restart your Avid software, the new version 2 plug-ins should
appear in the Effect Palette in the Sapphire2 categories. You
can simply use these effects just as you would any other effect.
For on-line help installed locally on your workstation, go to the
Applications folder, double click on GenArtsSapphire2AVX and
select the online documentation. A "Help" dialog is also provided
when using a plug-in, which gives information about that plug-in
currently being used. On Avid AVX1 products, click on
the small rectangular icon to the left of the effect name in the
Effect Editor.

- In 2.042, an issue where parameters behave incorrectly when
opening bins saved with old versions is fixed, and a problem with
FilmEffect's Field option is fixed.
- In 2.04, the Mac installer works correctly even if the AVX
plug-ins folder didn't exist.
- In 2.03, Avid's version 2.5/5.5 products on Mac are supported, including
AVX1 and AVX2 support.
- In 2.03, A memory issue with the AVX2 Feedback and Trails
effects is fixed, and a problem with transitions with automatic
start/end keyframes is fixed.
