Will my existing version 1 license continue to work as usual?
Yes, your existing license will work as usual as long as the hardware that it is locked to (i.e. the Avid or GenArts dongle or ethernet address) is operational. Any new transfers or replacements will require an upgrade to version 3.
What if I’ve lost my v1 license key?
We will continue to resend replacement licenses keys for existing version 1 licenses.

My machine crashed and I need to transfer my v1 license to another system.
Any new license transfers and replacements will require an upgrade to v3 unless the replacement system doesn’t support more recent versions of Sapphire.
Don’t I need Sapphire v1 if I share work from other editors that has been created in v1?
With recent Avid versions you can automatically promote all older Sapphire versions to Sapphire v3 AVX2. For more detail please see our Avid support page here:
Won’t I lose my presets in v1 if I upgrade? How can I upgrade old presets or favorites to v3 AVX2?
Current Avid versions auto-conform effects used in sequences, but do not conform effects stored in bins. We recommend the following workaround: before upgrading to v3, first make a temporary sequence with black on v1, and put each preset on that sequence. Then upgrade to v3 and uninstall the older version, load the sequence, and the Avid will conform (upgrade) the effects to Sapphire v3/AVX2. You can then drag the effects back into the bin, replacing the old ones.
Why is GenArts doing this?
We ceased development of Sapphire version 1 for Avid Systems in 2006, so the vast majority of our customers have upgraded to version 2 or version 3. Hence, it is no longer economically feasible to support a version this old.
What is GenArts policy on end of life for versions of Sapphire, Monsters and Raptors?
GenArts will officially support the current major version of a product as well as the major version immediately prior. For example, the current version of Sapphire for Avid systems is version 3. Therefore, GenArts officially supports versions 2 and 3.
